Audition Information

NOTES:

• Our scheduled February 2025 auditions have now taken place; however, we are happy to arrange individual auditions at any time in the year, so please get in touch if you wish to book an audition.

• All of the information on this page is a duplicate of the material included in the downloadable Audition Pack.

When and where will auditions be?

• WHEN:
  A 15-minute audition time to be organised by mutual arrangement
  

• WHERE:
  The Maker Workshop
  @ Te Matatiki Toi Ora, The Christchurch Arts Centre
  The corner of Rolleston Ave and Hereford Street

What do I need to do before the audition?

1. Fill in this online form prior to the audition:

2. Prepare a song of your choosing (no more than 2 minutes long), to be sung from memory.
   • Please also supply a backing track for accompaniment. This can be either emailed to us in advance, or brought along with you to play on a mobile device.
   • Ideally, the song you choose will show off your vocal range.
   • If you are not sure what to choose, a simple folk song is often a good option. Feel free to get in touch with us if you need more guidance on this.

What will the audition involve?

1. A part of a song of your choosing, sung from memory
   

2. Ear Test
   • We will test your ability to match pitch and identify basic intervals.
   • This will involve you hearing individual notes played on the piano and singing them back to us, followed by you listening to a melody and singing that back.
   

3. Range Test
   This will involve you singing scales to identify your lowest and highest notes.
   

4. Rhythm Test
   This will involve clapping a simple rhythm back to us in time with a beat.
   

5. Harmony Test
   • Please learn the upper part of the In Time of Silver Rain excerpt as sung on the track (sheet music and learning track linked above).
   • During the audition, you will be asked to hold this upper part (the melody) while the lower part is also being sung.
